Laurence Greene

Laurence R. Greene of New Hope passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at home surrounded by friends and family, after a long illness. He was 59.

A resident of New Hope for 15 years, Larry served his community as Judge of Elections, and as a board member of the Civil Service Commission. Born in Boston, Mass., Larry was the son of Laurence F. and Margaret Greene.

Larry graduated from Cheltenham High School in 1971, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from LaSalle University in 1975. Larry was a special education teacher in the Central Bucks School District for more than 30 years. He had coached football since 1980, first as an assistant. In 1987, he was named head football coach at Central Bucks East High School, where he coached for 16 years. In addition, he was head football coach at Pennsbury for four years. During his tenure at C.B. East, the Patriots won the league title in 2001, and appeared in the state playoffs in 1996, 2000 and 2001. His was selected to coach in the Big 33 Football Classic in Hershey, Pa., and was inducted into the C.B. East Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. Larry was an inspiration to athletes, students and fellow staff members through his indomitable spirit, friendliness and professionalism.

Larry was a devoted husband, grandfather and brother. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed spending time with his high school buddies and friends on the course.

Larry is survived by his wife, Vivian; stepsons, Brent Mauer (Melissa), Craig Mauer (Rachel); and his five grandchildren, Emily, Jessica, William, Ryan, and Nicholas. In addition, Larry is survived by his sisters, Helen Greene and Virginia Yildirm (Kemal); and many nieces and nephews.

Larry's funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, April 9, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 5175 Cold Spring Creamery Road, Doylestown.  Contributions may be made to 'Central Bucks East' for the establishment of a football scholarship in memory of Larry.
