Albert Einstein:  "Do not worry about your difficulties in Mathematics.  I can assure you that mine are still greater.
Tom Brokaw:  "You’ve been told during your high school years that you are now about to enter the real world, and you’ve been wondering what it’s like.  Let me tell you that the real world is not high school. The real world, it turns out, is much more like junior high."    Read the rest of the Tom Brokaw quote, and other Fun Quotes... click here

Harvey Fleegler, a longtime resident of Lafayette Hill, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023. Harvey was born October 4, 1943, to Harry and Florence (Levin) Fleegler in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Harvey grew up in the East Mount Airy section of Philadelphia. He graduated from Germantown High School and from Temple University with both an undergraduate and master’s degree.

Harvey taught math at various grade levels for over 30 years at Cheltenham High School. He loved working with kids and teaching difficult math concepts, and he would also tutor students.

In addition to teaching, Harvey coached tennis at various levels. He coached the men’s team at his alma mater Temple University. He also coached both men’s and women’s tennis at the high school level at Plymouth Whitemarsh and at the Mount.

Harvey loved the outdoors and exploring different places. He spent over 30 years at Camp Canadensis in the Poconos. He was a true outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed teaching others to fish, including a generation of Camp Canadensis alumni, and most recently his grandsons. He was very resourceful and would tie his own flies and even make his own bullets. He loved to travel both overseas and across the United States, including driving his Honda Accord above the arctic circle in Alaska.

Harvey also loved collecting various things from a young age. For Harvey, it was not just about obtaining things, but he was keenly interested in the history of each item and the individuals displayed on a particular coin or stamp, including presidents, heads of state, or other famous and notable people.

Harvey is survived by his wife Cheryl (Wachtel), his son Bill Fleegler and his partner Mina Kuriashkin of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, and his daughter Jodi Scott and son-in-law Jeffrey Scott of Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by four grandchildren Reid, Jason, Dylan, and Sloane, and three grand dogs, Lindor, Simon, and Coconut.

I can only hope that everyone else had as good a time at the reunion as I did! It was wild to see so many familiar faces all at once, and realize how long I’ve known some of you.

I can’t thank the organizers enough. You are the glue that keeps many of us in touch.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 7th decade!

All my best,

Matthew Starobin

PS Amy Coane, if you’re listening, I somehow ended up with one of the terrific Shoemaker photos you sent me. Happy to get it back to you. Sorry!
PPS. On an obscure note, I have terrific memories of the music teacher at Lynnwood. Miss Davis? If anyone knows about her, I’d love to know.

Posted by Naomi Freedman Serviss, a short sweet recollection by David Machlowitz in the "METROPOLITAN DIARY" section of the NY Times:

I just published a new book called The Beer Diet: How to Drink Beer and NOT Gain Weight, and a free download of the ebook is now available on Amazon for a limited time. It would help me if you download a free copy, and it may also help your waistline if you read it. A print version is also available for sale, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to my local food bank, Boca Helping Hands. Here's a link to the book:  Thanks for your support.
